A gameplay video is starting to become a game prompt.

I gave Codex + GPT-5.6 a simple screen recording of a fake mobile game ad, and it managed to analyze what was happening on screen, infer the missing mechanics, then turn it into a functional playable prototype.

This could completely change the fake game ad business.

Until now, these ads were an extremely effective way to test whether a gameplay concept could attract clicks before spending time and money building the real game.

But there is now a new risk: the moment an ad goes viral, indie developers can take the same video, feed it to an AI coding agent, recreate the core gameplay and release an actual playable version before the original advertiser ever does.

Fake game ads may still be useful for validating demand.

But they could also become free game design documents for thousands of developers watching them.

The companies making these ads are no longer only testing whether a market exists.

They may be publicly revealing the next indie game opportunity.
